In 2005, it was estimated 1.3-1.4 million children between the ages of 8 and 18 act as caregivers in their household to a sibling, parent, grandparent or extended family member. The Caregivers shares the intimate stories of caregiving youth growing up in the South. These young adults sacrifice their education, childhood and general well-being to support their families. By not acknowledging and experiencing these children’s lives, we run the risk of leaving a generation behind. And this generation has critical skills needed for our changing society.
